Star of ”The Kite Runner” fled alone across the world

As a 10-year-old Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada was receiving awards for his role in the successful movie “The Kite Runner" but he was subsequently forced to flee alone and ended up in the small Swedish town of Borlänge. He is now dreaming of being able to reunite with his parents and siblings.

"It is my fault that they have been forced to flee Afghanistan", he says.

The rain is pouring down and wet posters tell us there is more to Borlänge that the steel works SSAB and the football team Brage; Mando Diao, Sugarplum Fairy and Miss Li all come from this steel town in the Dalarna region. But Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada does not care about those things. He is fully occupied with school and work.

“My family has fled to Pakistan and my father is out of work there. I have to send them money and that’s why I work when I’m not at school, he says huddling in the rain.
