The German newspaper Der Spiegel revealed that the EU Commission knew about the car industry’s emission cheating for years. Now, with hitherto unpublished documents, Svenska Dagbladet is able to show just how close the ties were between VW and the former EU Commissioner for Industry.
The news published in Der Spiegel last Thursday were startling – according to documents obtained, the EU Commission knew about the car industry’s emission cheating already in 2010. Only 5 years later, in the fall of 2015, Volkswagen was caught cheating by American authorities.
The highest ranking EU Commissioner accused of having known about the cheating in the auto industry, without taking any action, is Antonio Tajani, former commissioner of industry.
